Study + practice: dual study program at HWG LU

The best of both worlds - a dual study program combines the advantages of an academically oriented university education with practical application in the company:

A prerequisite for dual studies at HWG LU is that students conclude a training contract with a company that is a cooperation partner of the university. During the lecture-free period, the students complete the practical phases in "their" company and get to know different areas of work there.

The training companies also benefit: They get to know their academically trained students during the practical phases and can deploy them in the company with a perfect fit after graduation.

According to a study by the CHE Center for Higher Education Development, which analyzed the development of dual study programs in all federal states for the first time in 2019, dual study programs in Rhineland-Palatinate are on a growth trajectory. Since its beginnings in 2008, the number of degree programs has quadrupled. 74 dual programs and around 3,500 dual students were recorded - and the trend is rising.

HWG LU is therefore one of the most popular universities in Rhineland-Palatinate and, with a share of around 20 percent of dual students, is in second place after Koblenz University of Applied Sciences.

The dual study program has a long tradition at HWG LU: the Bachelor's degree program "International Business Administration" was launched in 1995 as the first training-integrated degree program in Rhineland-Palatinate (at that time still called International Business Administration in Practice).

HWG LU works closely with the Rhineland-Palatinate Cooperative State University (DHR), which acts as an umbrella organization for the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The tasks of the DHR include

• Providing information, advice and networking for (potential) students, universities and cooperation partners
• Publicizing dual study programmes in Rhineland-Palatinate
• Supporting the initiation and further development of dual study programs.
