On Monday, 16.09.2019, according to preliminary figures according to preliminary figures, 718 Bachelor's and 170 Master's students started their studies at HWG LU. Organizational innovations brought the "city" to the studies at the traditional fresher's welcome and straightened out the previously tightly organized fresher's day.
One week before the official start of lectures, the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society welcomed the new freshmen: on Monday, 16 September 2019, from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm, the first-year students of the 2019/2020 winter semester were welcomed to the central campus at Ernst-Boehe-Straße 4. Here, the "first-timers" had the opportunity to find out about their future university away from the actual study activities, get to know the central campus, the professors, the service facilities and, last but not least, their first fellow students. A new feature this year was that the city's cultural institutions also presented themselves at the first semester welcome and the day was significantly streamlined due to organizational changes.
The event opened at 9.30 a.m. in the university auditorium with a welcome address to the new students by University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra. Mudra appealed to the new students to use the coming semesters not only to acquire knowledge, but also to develop their social and methodological skills and to make friends: "With all your commitment to your studies and work, leave room for other, important things," said the President. Mayor Prof. Dr. Cornelia Reifenberg then conveyed "a warm welcome from the city to the new phase of life at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society" and spoke of "great curiosity and expectation", a "time of freedom and self-discovery, in which there is still room for maneuver", which students should take advantage of.
At 10.00 a.m., the General Student Committee (AStA), the Student Parliament and Master's student Luisa Kläger presented the student representatives and the university. In the foyer in front of the auditorium, representatives from the individual Departments, Student Services, the International Office, the AStA and the Student Parliament (Stupa), the Studierendenwerk Vorderpfalz and the Bafög office answered questions from the newcomers and gave tips on starting their studies. For the first time, city institutions - LUKOM, dasHaus, the Hack Museum and the Bürgerstiftung - also introduced themselves to the new students. Degree courses were followed by guided tours of the campus from 13:00. In addition, a colorful supporting program awaited the new arrivals - including a TK promotional stand with free smoothies and a human foosball table, which was also officially handed over to the university on this day by Institut für Stadtmarketing Lorenz GmbH.

Despite all the innovations, there are also proven constants this year: As every semester, the AStA invites all first semester students to the Ersti-Get2gether on Tuesday, 17.09.2019 from 19.30h in the L3-Lounge (L3, 9) in Mannheim, as well as to the legendary Ersti-Party on Wednesday, 25.09.2019 from 22.00h in the Chaplin Club (N7, 10 in Mannheim); admission 4 euros.
