Part-time online Master's degree course and certificate courses in Biomedical Informatics and Data Science from October - innovative, interactive, self-organized and family-friendly
Qualified medical computer scientists are in high demand in all healthcare institutions and the healthcare industry. For this reason, Mannheim University of Applied Sciences and the MIRACUM consortium, in cooperation with the Graduate School Rhein Neckar (GSRN), will be offering the new continuing education online Master's degree program "Biomedical Informatics and Data Science" from October. The degree program is aimed at graduates with a first university degree (Bachelor, Diplom) in medical informatics, medical documentation, computer science, bioinformatics as well as natural and life sciences or a completed state examination in human, veterinary or dental medicine.
The new degree programs is divided into five specializations: Medicine, Informatics, Medical Informatics, Biomedical Data Science and Management & Social Skills. Internationally recognized lecturers from the fields of patient care, research and education teach the latest methods, techniques and developments.
In order to ensure a high degree of compatibility between family, career and further education and to reduce time away from family and work to a minimum, 90 percent of the course takes place online and 10 percent in person. Due to the small synchronous portions during the online phases, students can organize their learning activities flexibly and as freely as possible.
Online-based self-study is carried out with the help of numerous small multimedia and interactive learning units, which include lecture recordings, videos, eScripts, podcasts and self-study checks. The active application and deepening of knowledge is encouraged through continuous individual and collaborative work on learning and exercise tasks as well as through joint exchange within the learning group. The courses offered are not organized as traditional lecturer- and input-oriented courses, but rather support an intensively supervised learning process in a variety of ways with extensive individual initiative.
Irrespective of the degree course, continuous further training is necessary in the healthcare sector for future demanding, qualified activities in IT. This is particularly true because of the rapid methodological and technological developments and the frequent lack of medical knowledge, without which it is difficult to successfully design, develop and introduce typical medical applications. Without further training, it is easy to lose your professional edge these days. For this reason, certified online continuing education courses in medicine, computer science, medical informatics and bioinformatics will also be offered at the GSRN from the 2020/21 winter semester.
Comprehensive information on the degree programs and continuing education courses as well as on how to apply can be found on the GSRN homepage at www.gsrn.de.
