On October 15, 2019, Minister Höfken gave the official go-ahead for the state-wide "Müll nicht rum" campaign. With this campaign, the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Environment wants to draw citizens' attention to plastic waste and present alternatives to jointly stem the flood of packaging. The aim is to involve all generations in this campaign.
The "Plastic 4.0 - New media against plastic waste" competition for pupils, students and young adults was also launched as part of this campaign. This competition aims to encourage this target group to engage with the issue of plastic. The aim is to actively involve young people and allow them to help shape their future in order to contribute to change. Creative ideas are needed for this.
Participants should provide a project idea or contribution on how they can use digital media to make their friends, fellow students or classmates aware of the topic and often also the problem. The aim is to raise awareness and motivate people to act sustainably.
The overall competition is open to pupils, students and young adults from the 9th grade onwards. It is aimed at schools, universities and other educational institutions as well as associations, clubs or initiatives based in Rhineland-Palatinate. A sub-competition on the topic of "Plastic waste and nutrition" is also aimed at all interested schools at secondary levels I and II in Rhineland-Palatinate.
As an incentive to take part, the Ministry has set total prizes worth 7,000 euros. Participants can submit their entries to the ministry until March 31, 2020. Further information can be found at www.muellnichtrum.rlp.de/plastik or in the flyer.
