As a preventive measure to contain the coronavirus epidemic, university management exceptionally opted for a virtual format to welcome first-semester students
In view of the currently difficult to assess situation due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in the region, the traditional welcoming ceremony for first-semester students at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society took place in the form of a live stream this time as an exception. University President Prof. Dr. Peter Mudra and Michael Cordier, Managing Director of LUKOM Ludwigshafener Kongress- und Marketing-Gesellschaft mbH, welcomed the approximately 580 new students on behalf of the university and the city via video message from the university library.
"Today marks your entry into the academic world. We hope that you take this new path joyfully, courageously and successfully," said President Peter Mudra to the first-year students. In reference to the state government's "Against Hate & Agitation" campaign, Mudra also called on the new students to see the university as a place of diversity and internationality and to treat each other with respect and appreciation. LUKOM CEO Michael Cordier also picked up on the campaign with the slogan "Living well together" and showed Ludwigshafen and the metropolitan area Rhine-Neckar with its strong economy and broad cultural and leisure scene in its lively diversity.
Master's student An-Vieth Sattler then presented the General Student Committee (AStA) and its services and promoted the upcoming elections to the Student Parliament (Stupa) as the body for student co-determination. As a special highlight for the new students, Sattler also pointed out the "Ersti-Get-together" taking place tomorrow from 7.30 p.m. in the L3 Lounge in Mannheim. At the Degree, IPO student Tanja Ertl gave a brief insight into the university, the various locations, the range of study programs and additional offers. The Market of Opportunities with stand presentations in the foyer and the campus tours were not held on this day.
The rest of the Freshers' Week program, which is geared towards specific Departments or degree programs and designed for smaller groups, will take place as usual. The preliminary math course and the welcome service will also take place as planned. During Freshers' Week, the "Erstibags" will also be distributed to freshers as a small welcome gift.
Around 580 students will start their Bachelor's or Master's degree course at the Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society in the 2020 summer semester.
